Where our study listings come from

Every study on the site comes from the public ClinicalTrials.gov register. Here's how we use it, and where it can go wrong.

The register

ClinicalTrials.gov is a public database of clinical studies run by the U.S. National Library of Medicine. Study teams around the world register their studies there and keep their records up to date.
We copy each study's public record, including its status, phase, locations, and eligibility criteria as written. Every study page links to its official record, which is always the final word.

What software does, and its limits

Plain-language eligibility summaries
Eligibility criteria are written for researchers. Software reads each study's criteria and summarizes who can join in plain language. Summaries can be wrong or incomplete, so the full criteria, as written by the study, are shown below every summary.
Health areas
Studies are grouped into broad health areas using the medical terms on each record, so a study can appear in more than one area.
Who decides
Only the study team decides who can take part, based on its own criteria and screening.

The organization shown on a study

Each study page names the lead organization from its register record. We aren't affiliated with the organizations whose studies we list.
